At the beginning of each year there are many people who make New Year's Resolutions. But we should really call them New Years wishes, hopes, dreams because most never come to pass. In fact over 90% of New Year's Resolutions never come to pass. I believe there are two main reasons.

Unfulfilled New Years Resolutions
A. One of the main reasons they're not fulfilled is because of the fact they are New Year's resolutions. People are waiting to do what they need to do until New Years. Why wait? I believe it means that they're not very serious about doing what they vow to do. New Year's resolutions are more about wishes than commitments.

B. The other reason is resolutions are about change and change takes work and most do not want to put in the work to fulfill any of their New Year's resolutions. And they're also trying to fulfill their resolutions on their own strength.

Lifetime Resolutions
Instead of New Year's resolutions, let's make Lifetime Resolutions and start right now or whenever the Holy Spirit speaks to us to make a resolution-a commitment to change. Let's make resolutions that have lifetime value that transform our life and that will be beneficial to others. The most important changes we can make in our life have to do with the spiritual side of our life. Let's depend upon the Holy Spirit to empower us to make Lifetime Resolutions.

Biblical Commands
The best Lifetime Resolutions we can make is one based upon biblical commands. So, what if Christians and even those who are not Christians would make resolutions to apply various Bible verses in their life, to live by them through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Bible Verses on Love
Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you bless and curse not

Matthew 5:44 but I say unto you love your enemies bless them that curse you
1 Thessalonians 5:15 See that non render evil for evil unto man but every fought everyone followed that which is good both among yourselves and to all men.

Ephesians 4:32 and be you kind one to another tender-hearted forgiving one another Even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you

Galatians 6:10 as we have there for opportunity let us do good unto all men and especially unto them who are of the household of faith

Bible verses on Holy Living
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Summary
Our homes, our churches, our communities, our nation would be much different if those who proclaim to be Christ Followers made Lifetime Resolutions to follow these commands. Most likely you would see a change in the culture. How about you being a start of that change by walking in these biblical commands through the grace of Jesus Christ?
